SAY CHEESE

Last December I wondered aloud who you had to sleep with here to get a gourmet cheese shop. Well I don't know who slept with whom but cheese is coming to the Ridge! Hendricks Wines and Liquors, on the corner of 77th and 3rd, is opening a cheese shop next door to their liquor store. I'm told they'll have cheese, bread, crackers and an assortment of goodies. The store will probably open sometime in November.

Hendricks, meanwhile, is doing a renovation on their liquor store.

Oooo, I hope they do wine and cheese pairings.

hrmmmm... a couple of things wrong here. For starters, I was under the impression the original owner of Hendricks was in trouble financially (the place had been up for sale a few years back) and what you report as a renovation looks more like a wholesale liquidation... I don't know of any liquor store that's just stopped ordering had their shelves go naked like that.

But if what you report is true, then it's possible they just have new owners entirely and are switching business models altogether.

I thought the same thing, anon, when I went in there the other day. I asked if they were going out of business and the guy behind the counter said no, that they had stopped ordering because of the renovations.

I'm just going by what I was told. Call me the messenger.

please, don't tell me those two gross tatt'd-up overwieght dudes are the ones who are opening this thing!

Buying my cheesy comestibles from them is about as appetizing as eating escargot in the crapper.

I do wish them well... but, I'll be buying my cheese either at Costco and at A&S for the Greek varieties...
