SPRINGSTEEN AND STEWART

If you're me, and say your prayers you're not, it doesn't get much better for a Jersey boy than Jon Stewart and Bruce Springsteen. And that's exactly what I'm going to get tonight on The Daily Show. Bruce Springsteen is the guest on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

He's going to play Working on a Dream from the new cd of the same name.

CLEVELAND ROCKS?

A couple of weeks ago I was in Cleveland to see one of my shows. It was a wonderful production.

But the city? Oy my gosh. What a dump. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was great. And the Cleveland Clinic is one of the best hospitals in the country. But the city...

And then today I saw the Forbes list of the Ten Most Miserable Cities in the U.S. Cleveland comes in at #4.
  1. Stockton, Calif
  2. Memphis, Tenn
  3. Chicago, Ill.
  4. Cleveland, Ohio
  5. Modesto, Calif
  6. Flint, Mich.
  7. Detroit, Mich
  8. Buffalo, N.Y
  9. Miami, Fla.
  10. St. Louis, Mo.
My big regret is that I feel I'll have to go back to Cleveland this summer to see the Springsteen exhibit at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

THE WRESTLER

I saw Milk last night. Terrific film. Sean Penn is amazing. And what fun to have a packed theatre boo Anita Bryant.

And I saw the trailer for The Wrestler. I've heard really good things about it. What's most shocking is Mickey Rourke. He looks perfect for the role but what the hell has happened to him? He looks like a freak. Even freakier than he usually looks.

And what's not to love about a new Springsteen song?

REST IN PEACE, PHANTOM DAN

I have been a life-long Bruce Springsteen fan. I was in the 6th grade when my brother bought The Wild, The Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle. I'd listen to it for hours on end. I remember when Born to Run came out and the hype of the Time and Newsweek covers. I saw him play at small clubs, I saw him play huge stadiums.

The sound, to me, was perfect. The perfect blend of instruments and voices. The sound pierced my soul and has been my home.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band had a very long run without a tragedy. The band remained intact from the mid-70s through 2008. So it's with great sadness that I write
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band keyboardist Danny Federici passed away last Thursday at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York after a long bout with melanoma. He was 58, and is survived by his wife, Maya, his son, Jason, and his daughters, Harley and Madison.
Rest in Peace, Phantom Dan.

THINGS I'M THANKFUL FOR

With the Thanksgiving weekend upon us, I've decided to list some things I'm thankful for in my life. This is by no means a complete list, only a start.

My wife, my daughter, my mom and dad, my brother and sister, my nieces and nephews, my dog, the roof over my head, the food in my pantry, Melisa Christian, The Family Guy, my health (knock on wood), my team of doctors, only one more year of President W, Major League Baseball, Bagel Boy, Starbucks, Paris, Lucy Liu, Red Wine, Peppino's Pizza, Tanoreen, Bay Ridge, Jon Stewart, Keith Olbermann, the internet, Melisa Christian (Yeah, I'm doubly thankful for her), Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, itunes, Amazon.com, everyone who visits Left In Bay Ridge, my daughter's laughter, Fender Guitars, The Loveless Cafe, Megadik and WonderCum...to be continued...
