CHURCH IN A PUB, PLEASE

If it involves drinking, the Rover is all over it. He has posted that construction has begun on the old Griswold's and the rumor is it will be a bank. A BANK!!?? We need a new bank for someone to knock off?

I have a better idea - someone call Emerick - it's the perfect size for his congregation.

WHAT DO YOU HAVE ON TAP?

ROVER, I MEANT ROVER

Evidently my new year resolution to start drinking earlier in the day has been paying off. I have now referred to Rover as Righty. Twice.

So to make up for it, I give you Rover, Righty, Whitey, and the Phantom.

IN RESPONSE

In response to Righty's - Not Righty - ROVER'S pic of Mitt doing stand-up at tha Laff Factory, I'd like to again post this pic of Mitt preparing to pack fudge.

A RECORD SPENDING PLAN

I really have to hand it to Dubya. Despite all of the criticism about his Presidency he continues to fuel the fire. This is a man who doesn't care what anyone thinks.

Bush unveiled a $3.1 trillion spending plan! This is the first time a spending plan has broken the $3 trillion mark. And what have the reactions been to President Spend Spend Spend? Both sides are fairly appalled.

And since Dubya considers the wars in Irag and Afghanistan emergency spending so the full cost for the wars are not included in the budget. WHAT!? The wars are our money pit and he didn't include them!?

Dubya proposed cuts in 151 government programs, such as health care, community services for the poor, and education. And he still wants Congress to pass those damn tax cuts that report after report have proven will really only benefit the wealthiest Americans.

I'm so glad Dubya was able to take a budget surplus and turn it into a record deficit.

But then again, when Dubya was a baseball team owner, he was the only owner to vote against the wildcard format.

Thanks Dubya, for 8 lousy years.

SUPER TUESDAY

It's Super Tuesday! An exciting day. I've already voted 4 times. So get out there and vote. If you don't like the way things are going in this country - vote! If you do like the way things are going - um - wow - that's uh - wow - really? - well - vote anyway! It's your civic duty!

PRESIDENTIAL POLL RESULTS

The results are in and nearly 70% of Left in Bay Ridge readers think it's time to tell your mama that it's gonna be Obama in the White House.

There was a 3 way tie for 2nd place, all with 10% of the vote: Short Fuse McCain, Mitt is da Sh*@, and in a surprising show - Melisa Christian, I Love You.

And garnering no votes was Welcome Back, Clintons. Hmm...curious.

But Melisa, let me tell you, from the bottom off my heart, you are so much better than McCain and Mitt.

CLASSLESS CHUMPS

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are a couple of classless petulant chumps. With one second remaining of the Super Bowl, both chumps walked off the field.

Belichick at least walked over and congratulated Coughlin, but left his team to face the loss while he escaped to the locker room. Chump. And did you see his post-game interview? Could he have been more petulant and self-centered? Oh poor poor you, Bill. You didn't win and you didn't go 19-0. Yeah, losing sucks. No one likes to lose. But you lost. And the mark of a good loser, the mark of someone with class is accepting the loss with dignity and publicly congratulating the winning team. But you were so upset at not getting your way that you didn't say a thing about how well the Giants played. Good sportsmanship? Or were you upset that your secret videos didn't help you win?

And Brady didn't congratulate Manning. There was no "nice game" or "congratulations." Just an upset loser walking off the field before the game was over. Way to be a good role model for your son, Tom.

Tom and Bill, you're both losers in more ways than one.

CRIPPLING SNOW IN CHINA

As most of you already know, China has been crippled by a series of freak snow storms. The damage so far has been estimated to be at $7.5 billion.

The hardest hit area is the Hunan province, and in particular -
the city of Chenzhou, where 1.2 million have been without electricity for eight days.
Chenzhou is where our daughter's orphanage is located. According to Half the Sky
Chenzhou CWI, Hunan – still facing the most difficulties of the orphanages we’ve reached. They’ve had no electricity or running water for 8 days and there is almost no possibility that power will be restored before New Year’s Eve (the 6th of February.) Because of the blackout, the hospital is closed. The banks are closed so staff is contributing personal funds to buy food, coal and diapers. Prices are skyrocketing as all roads to Chenzhou remain impassable. Families in Chenzhou are now rationed and can only buy 4 packages of noodles per family. The Civil Affairs Bureau delivered 3 sacks of rice to the institution. They are using candles but the cost per candle has gone from 20 cents to 5 yuan (70 cents) per candle. They are using coal to keep warm but the price of coal is skyrocketing.
Half the Sky is a non-profit organization that strives to ensure that every one of China's orphans has a caring adult in her life. They have set up an emergency fund to help those affected by the snow storms. Please give if you can. If you can't give, please spread the word. Thank you.
